Arc250 & BC250D question...

I have Arc250 software v1.12 & the BC250D scanner. I tried to hook up
the scanner on my laptop with the software & the USB - Serial converter.
The laptop recognized & installed the converter, but the ARC software
would not recognize the scanner.
I thought v.1.12 was suposed to be compatible with the converter. My
laptop does not have a serial port.
Any suggestions? (I did hit menu-3-5-& select a speed)
If you have come here to find out about the 250D you have come to the right place! In fact the discussion of the BC-250D and how it works is the only acceptable topic on this list. Any discussion about anything other than the BC-250D is OFF TOPIC. I hope this is clear to all group members..
