Serial port converter

I hope you can help me or steer me in the right direction.
I purchased a Uniden BC250D scanner and the PC cable does not match 
anything on my computer. The only serial type ports I have are a 15 pin 
female(monitor) and 16 pin female(unused) the cable for the scanner is 
a 9 pin female. So I guess I need a 15or16pin to 9pin male/male 
adapter. Is there such a thing? If there is no such thing has anyone 
tried a serial/USB converter? Can anyone recommend one that will work?
