For the 396T, just upgrade the firmware using the cable that came with 
your scanner, the free firmware installer utility, and the free 
firmware. After that, you can use the free SW such as FreeScan to copy 
your system to a new one and set up the rebanded settings. Or, you can 
just use the copy function of the scanner to copy the Groups over to the 
new System.

Total cost? $0.00, not quite $150.
