I have to bypass Privoxy (privacy and advertisement blocking proxy software)
to login to any of the Yahoo groups via the web to perform some functions,
e.g., uploading a file.

It is a matter of changing the Proxy preference in the web browser.

Yahoo is free to users and supported by advertising and I suppose this
is Yahoo's way of pushing you to view their advertisements.

There are other sites and bulletin board systems require you to bypass
Privoxy, too.

It's inconvenient, but not an insurmountable obstacle.
