Hello all, just thought I would post a question today about my
radio's performance. Yesterday I enjoyed a visual spectacle that all
man and beast should get to see at least once in their lifetime. An
air show featuring the Blue Angels. Last year at this same time I
witnessed the great Canadian Snowbirds team and happened to see a few
scanning radio's within the crowd, with a few trucks and SUV's
sporting sophisticated radio equipment. Now I thought, hey what a
great way to watch the show. I own an ICOM R-2 reciever. I use it at
all the Dover Delaware Nascar races the that see, twice a year. Yeah,
I'll bring it along to the Blue Angels demonstration at the Millville
airport in New Jersey 2003. May 2003, Having a good time, watching
some really nice displays of aerobatics with planes like P-51Mustang,
P-47 Thunderbolt, Yak-4's, A-10 Warhawks, B-25's, C-130's. OOh Yeah!
Yes a fine day at the airfield. Last years Candian Snowbirds are on
next. So I get out the reciever. Check my frequencies list that I
downloaded from an Airshow web page and start checking some active
frequencies. No luck. I could here some communication, but it was
muffled, unclear. Like the antenna was removed. Well, let me try the
Air Boss freq. No luck. Well let me try the tower freq. No luck.
MMMM, maybe the freq are outdated. I see a scanning enthusiast in the
crowd.I introduced myself and asked what freq's he was monitoring. He
showed me his list. MMMM, same frequencies I have. But I did notice
his radio was operating fine, at the same frequencies that I had set
my radio to. Strange I thought. I said thank you and was on my way
with puzzled look on my face. I figured I would check my Attenuator
function on the radio, maybe some frequencies from Philladelphia or
Atlantic City are mixing in. Nothing worked. I use the radio
regularly almost daily with out problems monitoring Police, EMS,
Fire, even some local radio station frequencies without problems. I
even checked these frequencies at the show and they worked fine. What
do ask could be happening here. I am using the stock FA-S270C
attenna. I even tried my Diamond SRH805 stubby. I really dont
consider myself an expert scanner user but I know how to use this
radio. It baffles me to see another user, using a brand X reciever,
without problems, and had clearly said, Uh-its my dads radio and
these are the freq he gave me. While Im there looking like a goofy
kid who just lost his best friend. Can anyone on this message board
give some insite, or maybe you have had the same problems. I
appriciate the info.
Blueray.
