I wonder if you would be able to configure
your IC-R2 if you installed fresh
alkaline batteries in it and used tk2 software?

tk2 is free, open source software I wrote for the IC-R2.
tk2 lets you change a couple of settings to accommodate
various type of level shifter cable, though the cable must
support both uploading and downloading of the radio.

I don't warrant tk2, but it won't cost you anything.
