Hi,
 I own both the IC-Q7A and the R2.  I like them both.
The Q7A seems more sensitive on the 800mHz band, and I
believe the receive coverage is complete. The R2 has
gaps (other than cellular, on both). The Q7A only has
1/3 watt 
xmit power. The R2 xmits over a watt. The R2 halso has
alpha-numeric tags; none on the Q7A. Q7A uses two AA
batteries; they last forever.

Like I said; I like them both
