RE: cable problems

Brian,
I have selected a download from the scanner. In fact the radio will actually display "CL OUT" but nothing downloads. The program errors out saying either that a cloning cable is not connected to the specified port or that the ICOM is off or that there is an error opening COM1. I am a Windows systems engineer so I have some understanding of the computer end of things but it seems as though the cable is faulty. When I plug a stereo to mono adapter on the end of the cable it works fine on my Pro-96. I wonder if it would be possible to plug a mono to stereo adapter on the end of that configuration and make it work with the IC R2. I am open to suggestions.

Please forgive what may be a silly question, but given your unfamiliarity with the menus and that many computer interface devices are set up in the software to "plug and play", are you assuming that merely hooking up the radio to the interface cable will cause the program to display the radio's information on the screen? You do have to actually select a "download" from the radio to the computer before anything but blanks are displayed....

First, what do you mean by "the earphone jack may only be working on one
side"? Are you trying to use stereo headphones? The R2 is a mono device,
and the earphone jack is designed to drive a mono earphone only. To use
stereo heaphones, you need a mono to stereo adapter. Without that, only one
	ear will get any sound.

If the cable and connections and serial port are all OK, software should be
able to communicate with the radio at some minimal level, even if it doesn't
like the fact that the radio is a non-US version. Most software should talk
to any version of the radio.
