Here are two different possibilities: (1) The cloning jack voltage levels of the IC-R2 and PRO-96 are probably different. I wonder if the problem is related to the voltages available at your computer's serial port. Could you try the cable/software/IC-R2 using a different brand PC? (2) I've used a Purple cable interface with and IC-R2 and tk2 software. Be aware that tk2's "Radio--> Configure serial port" applet lets you set two different interface parameters to suit your PC/cable setup.
