It's not that hard to do the mod on the R2, as the
two components, that you need to solder the wire to, are
not microscopic in size. But as always you'll need to
be careful not to spill any solder blobs on the board
and a steady hand helps ;-)

I mean no disrespect to anyone who can mod one of these, but the circuit
boards and components have become so small that anyone who mods without
magnification and a very steady hand and a very high quality soldering
iron is likely going to be buying a new radio.  ( At least one
consolation is that you'll like your new R-5 more than your R-2 ;) )
