And then you will possibly kill your radio with one false move of the soldering iron. I mean no disrespect to anyone who can mod one of these, but the circuit boards and components have become so small that anyone who mods without magnification and a very steady hand and a very high quality soldering iron is likely going to be buying a new radio. Difficult to describe the mod in words, but you connect the SQ signal, that goes to the CPU, to the steering pin of the transistor that turns on the backlight. You can probably figure it out by yourself if you download the schematic from the files section.
