Confused manuel reader

Hi all, i am in the Uk and have had my R2 for sometime now and i
still 
dont understand how too operate it? I have the manuel but find it 
confusing too read. Please could somebody contact me and talk me 
through searching and scanning freqs please. I am not far from 
Birmingham Int airport in the UK.
Oh one other thing In August i emigrate too the states will my R2
work 
over there or just in the UK??
