I tried to fix it by replacing the FET nearest the antenna input - without luck. Then after looking at Amazon I realized that the Grundig 4000A is likely being closed out. It was available for $70 and we will be using it in the Adirondacks soon to see if it can do as well as the old Sony. I haven't tried it yet on SSB. I know what you mean about collecting radios. On July 4 when visiting Walgreen's I saw a SAME weather radio on closeout for $8.25. I didn't need it but now own it. (Along with my collection dating back to the late 70's.) My biggest scanning problem is that the local sheriff uses one of the few trunked systems that can't be decoded by any of the commercially available scanners. You apparently need two scanners and a computer to follow the trunking. I think it is called LTR Multinet. Regular LTR is supported but not this variation. You know that equation - the number of radios that one needs = N + 1, where N = the number of radios you have now? That's me. I should get realistic and get radios which each specialize on one thing and do it well. But then I'm just not a practical person that way. I don't have any kind of scanner yet so I was looking at the IC R2 as a possible wider freq spectrum scannner. Since first posting here, I found out that if I want a scanner that will pick up law enforcement agencies in my area I would probably need to go up to something like the Pro 2096; so as to have the digital "25" something or other and trunking capabilities. Those darn things are expensive though. I'm finding it is hard to search for scanners using their capabilities as search criteria. If anyone knows other scanners besides the pro 2096, which get digital and multi-trunking, and sell used for less than $200, that would be very helpful! THANKS!
