To tell the truth, Gary, I don't like -any- of them.  I find it somewhat time consuming to hand program the BC245XLT, but not all that difficult.  Since I use the BC245XLT exclusively for my local trunking system, there isn't much that ever needs to be changed.

The main reason that I have the BC245XLT is that the earlier BC235XLT that I also have did not automatically "hear" the talk groups that were using the status bit - thus if a talk group was in a shared mode (two talk groups linked together), then the BC235XLT would not hear it unless the talk group +3 was entered.

One reason that I keep the BC235XLT is that it has the capability to scan within a specific range of manually entered frequencies - a capability that most newer scanners do not offer.

For non-trunked scanning, I use RS Pro-82 and Pro-84 scanners.  For them, I do use free programs to load them up.
