PL tone is the signal/klaxton sound sent to activate radios that are in standby mode like on call personnel being alerted to a fire call dispatch. 245 doesn't support this feature although you will still hear the tones on the radio when dispatch sets one off. Sorry if this is redundant or just way too basic for this group. I have not listened to my scanner since living out in LA many years ago so I am very rusty on programming it and on what is new in radio these days. I also can't seem to find my programming cable (which if I did I could probably sell here for more than my car is worth J ) so I have to do it manually. I've been trying to hear local Hollis, NH PD/FD on my BC245XLT. I programmed in the Hollis and Brookline frequencies from: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1766 From what I can tell it does not appear that either town uses digital or trunking. I was not sure what to do with the "PL tone" - does that need to be programmed into the 245 somehow? I could not find any reference to tone in any of the programming info I could find on the 245. With the scanner scanning that bank, I have never heard a peep. I adjusted the squelch etc. I have a Diamond RH77CA antenna on it. Any other good local frequencies I could plug in just to be sure this thing still works? Any ideas? Is Hollis just that quiet?
