wwww.carmachicago.com and wwww.radioreference.com are two great places to start. Both have extensive Cival and MILAIR lists.  You'll want a Discone or something similar on the roof to expand MILAIR capabilities in the Chicago area.  I live here as well and even with the standard antenna I am capable of hearing WIANG and INANG units practicing in Military Overflight Areas (MOAS) in IL, In, and over Lake Michigan from time to time.  
Since NAS Glenview and the military side of ORD closed, there is a much reduced presence close by.  But Milwaukee, Madison, Peoria and Ft Wayne all of military  components not to mention a large training area at Volk Field in Central WI .  Plus Chicago Center gets frequent Military overflights.

On the last post some one was selling their 780, lots of you said it was one
of the best mil air radios.   I need to get my out and running again.   Does
any one have advice on how they programmed there's for military air.    Also
