Hello from Florida,

  I'm sure you have already tried this, but in case you have not...check settings in software for the baud rate in the software.  Using the menu of the 780, set the baud rate for the same setting you have selected in the software.   Is the cable you are using a standard DB-9 cable?   If you are using a null modem cable or null modem adapter, that will not allow proper communication between the scanner and computer.
