FT100 not folding back when high SWR (?)

I've been using a FT100 in a mobile setup for a long time (HF, VHF, UHF) without difficulty or complaint.

During my most recent road trip, I discovered (when checking my mobile antenna for resonance by checking a few frequencies on the band) that the radio appears not to be folding back enough with high SWR. In all prior history, the radio would drop to about 10W (on HF) when SWR was high. I noticed abnormally high output power away from resonance during my trip (say about 50W rather than 10W). Upon return, I ran a similar test and ended up blowing the (20A) inline fuse (no other damage done) when testing in a similar fashion.

Does this condition ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks,
