Even though the atas 120a antenna has a few benefits the antenna is not something I would consider performance at all. Does it make contacts? Yes. Does it do as good as most screwdriver antennas? No.. if you have to go compact like the atas 120 imo the small tarhill still wins. I run mobile and my advise is any average size screwdriver antenna is a huge performance over the atas 120. No matter what brand. Scorpion, Tarheel, High Sierra etc etc.. Just trying to give you advise so you have a real good mobile. The FT-100/D is a great radio and the yaesu antenna cripples the Hf side.. imo mobile on 6m is not what I would call to much fun unless you live up on big hills etc. Not saying you won't make contacts but it isn't going to be a very common thing. ( hence unless you have the elevation) , if still want 6m diamond makes a tri-band 2,440,6m.. if dont want 440 I advise getting the 2m,6m antenna. 5/8 wave 2m is very close to 1/4 wave 6m so their is some low price antennas out there that do fairly well, Mfj even makes one. Was actually my first 2m/6m antenna. I made some good contacts with it. Just thought I would give you some info. Enjoy your 100/100D. I have owned around 10 of them and repaired about 50 in my lifetime. I don't own one now but miss it.. Like I said , it was/is a great radio. The 857/897 wishes it could be as good.

Good Morning from NC! I bought John Geiger's radio and am slowly figuring out the very basics. I got this with the intention of mobile HF since most of every day is in the car driving better than 200 plus miles. I do need to find a separation kit now, and when the budget allows, an ATAS 120A, mean time I'll go with a good dual band and likely a well tuned 6M mono.
It is my hope, since this group seems to have been around since the earth's crust was formed, to find the answers to most if not all my many questions right here! You know, one stop shopping and all!
