Ok John thats great - I was asking just in case73 Bob Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. -------- Original message --------From: "John Geiger [email protected] [FT100]" <[email protected]> Date: 30/01/2019 15:54 (GMT+00:00) To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FT100] Microphone question Thanks for the replies so far. Yes, I do have the processor on and the mic gain set for a mid scale to a bit above mid scale ALC. I am also using the DSP mic equalization setting of 3. 73 John AF5CC On Wed, Jan 30, 2019 at 5:23 AM BOB RALPH [email protected] [FT100] <[email protected]> wrote: Hi John I assume you set the Mic gain to achieve a good measure of ALC? I also assume you have the Compressor ON - and set the compression level by listening to to your signal on another receiver (not a report from someone else). You can increase average power out by perahps 100% and with quite a bit more edge - much more valuable than what just swapping the mike would give. Don't forget that in the early 80's the solar flux was high and you could work the world with a 'wet bit of string'. 73 Bob G4KSG ----Original message---- From : [email protected] Date : 29/01/2019 - 23:29 (GMT) To : [email protected] Subject : [FT100] Microphone question I really like my Yaesu Ft100D, but sometimes 100 watts on SSB seems to be challenging. It seems like it was easier to run barefoot when I was first licensed in the early 80s, probably partially due to the higher noise floor today with all of the consumer electronics and their noisy switching power supplies. So far I have always used the stock hand mic with the FT100D. Are their other mics that increase the audio punch, making it easier to be heard or to break through pileups? Do desk mics usually work better? Any recommendations on the best mic to get increased audio punch on the FT100D? 73 John AF5CC [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
