mike cable question

I was going through my collection of stuff and found a beautiful old
ElectroVoice 664 that I used with my SB400 Heathkit. It would add some much
needed charm to the operating desk. Question is what can I use for a mike
cable. My thinking is I can whack off one end of an ethernet cable and
connect the mike to the cable. Will it work? Would shielding be an issue?
