Patricia,I think I can help although I don't have a FT-100 but I have repaired a few some years ago. Double check the radio mic jack. I believe it is a RJ-12 6 pin not a RJ-45 8 pin so you couldn't use an Ethernet cable. If it is 6 pins then a 3 line telephone cable could be used to make an adapter. If you have, or know somebody who has, a RJ crimper you can build the cable yourself.If possible, I prefer to build adapters vs rewiring a working mic unless I'm certain I'll never use it on another rig. As for the EV-664, it has a 4 pin socket on the bottom so you can make a unique cable for the mic. As it comes from the factory the mic switch is used to short the mic for on/off use. You need to rewire the switch for PTT as well as VOX, if you plan to use the latter. I
t is also necessary to wire it for lo-z.The FT-100 needs a resistor, I forget the value, in series with the PTT line to ground to key the transmitter. That can go in the mic or cable connector. I prefer the latter so that removing the cable from the mic removes the modification. Regarding shielding, I would use a 3 conductor shielded cable: shield/PTT ground, mic hi, and PTT. Since the FT-100 has a common ground for mic and PTT you don't need more. I'll work on a schematic. I should be able to send it to you today. I'll include the official EV docs for wiring the mic for PTT and VOX. I was going through my collection of stuff and found a beautiful old ElectroVoice 664 that I used with my SB400 Heathkit. It would add some much needed charm to the operating desk. Question is what can I use for a mike cable. My thinking is I can whack off one end of an ethernet cable and connect the mike to the cable. Will it work? Would shielding be an issue?
