Very strange this one, I have never seen that problem before, It may not be the radio, have you thought of looking at the antenna connections, You would possiblely get that kind of full scale signal if the earth has come into contact with the inner core, So check all connecting plugs or you could have a break in the co-ax, The simplest thing to do though is to re-connect the rubber antenna to see if that cures the problem, to eliminate co-ax, One other thought is if you had your radio connected to an outside antenna during a storm and a close lighting strike that would have untold damage, I suppose if all else fails it must be the radio.
