Hi Stan, If shortwave reception is something you'll want to use, then go with the VR-500. It has SSB, plus you can enable narrow AM (NAM) via Bob Parnass' software. Search in the archives for more on this, but it really helps make the VR-500 a workable ute bander, considering the package size.
