Thanks to the group members who responded on this disassembly question. In my my case I am certain that it is the internal speaker contacts and not the earphone switch/jack contacts that are intermittent. I have learned through past discussions that both problems are possible based on the vintage of the radio. Desoldering of the shields and the use of a spanner tool to remove the control pots from the frame sounds doable. I might make use of the tape guide adjustment tools from my old VCR repair days (anybody remember VCRs?) Thanks again for all the help. I will post back any interesting anecdotes. Joe Z.
