I've A/B compared using the Miracle Antenna and no Miracle Whip  
antenna on HF frequencies, and gotten much improvement in signal  
strength using the Miracle Antenna. It loads the wire (we're talking  
18" of wire here")...

I seldom use the Icom R1 without the Miracle Antenna attached between  
the 18" wire. It's that good. (remember we're talking about shortwave  
reception)
