First, the hidden menu items must be enabled by:
Pressing and holding the 0, 3, 5 and, 9 keys while powering the 500 on.
Then enter SET mode, 2 new items will be added...
#33 - User Port and
#34 - Narrow AM
With #34 selected, press the function key and turn the main dial to toggle 
between off and on.
This does not add a new mode (NAM) but changes all AM memories and VFO's to 
NAM.
