An alternative would be to get a stereo plug and a stereo socket and wire the mono audio from the plug tip to both channels in the socket. At least that way, the headphones can still be used for other stereo devices. I know that most scanners only have audio on one channel, so that's why I used a mono-stereo adapter. Have been using just the headphone plug by itself, with audio on the one side, not having problems now. It was probably causing a strain on the connection on the board. Looks like I will have to make do with one-track audio, or break the cable and connect both sides together. Many thanks for you help. >
