Jimmy, Welcome to the group. While I can't help on whether there are different versions of the VR-500 (though I've never heard this to be the case), I can point you to this easy tip on enabling AM-narrow mode on the VR-500 (if only all wideband handhelds had this underlying capability!) : Re: NAM mode Here's how its done. To enable the hidden Narrow AM option on the VR-500 simply do the following..... You unlock the hidden menu options #33 "User Port" and #34 "Narrow AM" by pressing and holding four buttons while switching the radio on: 0,3,5 and 9. Menu #33 "User Port" does nothing, but the #34 "Narrow AM" option is very handy and works very well. Enjoy I have yet to try doing this myself...to be honest I haven't had an urgent need to narrow the reception on my 500...I've done well just as-is. But it's great to have this available!
