Thanks everybody for all your kind & helpful suggestions in helping
me achieve better AM reception on my new VR-500 which, in that respect
has been a huge disappointment ( I had an Alinco DJ-X7 with a built-in
Ferrite antenna that pulled in pretty good AM-much better than this one)
for an otherwise excellent, versatile Reciever.
Since I would like to use this radio to listen to AM news, etc on the
go as well as listening to my scanned frequencies, I think I would be
interested in either buying or making something I can slip over the
rubber duck antenna to improve my AM reception.
As far as unlocking my VR-500-s hidden menu to change AM Wide to AM
Narrow, so far my attempts to do so have proven unsuccessful. No matter
how many times I try to push & hold down the 0, 3, 5 & 9 buttons while
powering the unit on ( using a rather contorted 2-handed technique
resembling that of a Tarantula, or something), all I get on the screen
is just the same screen I get when I normally power-on the radio, and no
menu that has any "user port 34 " or AM Narrow option as previously
described in an earlier post.
Since I am certain that I'm pushing & holding the correct buttons as
suggested, could there be different numbered button combinations that
will do the trick ? Could somebody out there shed some more light on
this subject? I'd sure appreciate this if it would help me get better AM
by being able to switch to AM Narrow.
Thanks,
Jimmy
