I usually put the radio down on a solid surface 
and use fingers on both hands to press the keys. 
It takes a little practice.

As far as an AM broadcast antenna, I salvaged a 
ferrite loop and capacitor from an old portable 
radio. Depending upon how the loop is built, 
there are either 3 or 4 wires. Two of the wires 
are connected to the cap for tuning and the other 
two are for the link coupling. If there are only 
3 wires, then the tuned loop and the coupling 
link share a common wire. I installed the cicuit
in a Radio Shack plastic case. I wired the link 
to a BNC chassis connector mounted to the box.  
I use a BNC M-M adapter to connect the loop to 
the VR-500. Works just fine, I can receive many 
AM stations now while in the office.
