I own 2 VR-500s, one since 2000.

I have not seen that battery box problem.

The VR-500 was originally designed for Alkaline AA batteries.

If you are trying to use NiMH batteries, that could be the cause.

I have had problems fitting NiMH AA batteries in some equipment.

Some NiMH AA batteries are slightly longer than Alkaline AAs.

That part of [6(PW)] menu does not apply to VR-500.
