Hi Joan,
You probably already know this, but you must HOLD those buttons down while you turn the radio on--just want to make sure you're not missing anything.
Once you do this, I believe you still have to get into the menu; doing the above just adds two more items to the menu.
To get into the menu, hold down the "function" button on the side of the radio while pressing the "ENT" button. Rotate the tuning knob until it displays item 34, which will show "AM NARROW". To turn AM narrow on or off, hold down the function button while rotating the tuning knob; the display will indicate whether AM narrow is on or off. I could be wrong on one or two of these steps (I don't have the radio on front of me), but I think I have it right. Someone else reading this may be able to correct me.
Once you've turned AM narrow on, whenever you switch between the various modes, AM will now display as "NAM". You'll have to go back into the menu to enable wide AM.
