<p>Mike, my email reply to this didn't seem to make the trip, so let me try here onsite.<div><br></div><div>As far as I know, I've always used the 12-volt batteries in my Grove Active Duck. I vaguely remember the instructions saying this was the battery to use, but I could be wrong on that. I'll have to revisit my Active Duck. The main limitation I found with it was that with its antenna being so short, the unit had to be held in an optimal reception spot in the room in order to get enough signal to be able to amplify. At times it gave good reception, but often I was a bit disappointed. I think I remember having to wind a wire spiral of several turns around its antenna, the bottom of the spiral being connected to the ground side of the BNC, in order to cure interference o
n the 27 MHz band. I think I was getting overload of some sort there, possibly from broadcast stations.</div><div><br></div><div>So I did find the Active Duck helpful on some radios and on some frequency ranges. Let me dig it out and try it with the VR-500. And I'll let you know if it's in fact 12 volt batteries I've been using in it.</div><div><br></div><div>Chuck</div></p>
