I was now all ready to toss my 12-volt batteries (they're actually several years old now - I should measure them) - but now you report that the instructions say to use the A23. Well, it IS good to know I haven't been frying my Duck when I've used it. And yes, when I switch it on the general noise level really amps up. Now I'm curious, I'm gonna buy a couple of N cells and compare. </div><div><br></div><div>12 volts seems like a lot to hit a FET with...if the Duck will work well on 1.5V maybe I'll settle on that.</div><div><br></div><div>Yes, much less to hear on the shortwave broadcast bands now. But the VR-50
