What frequency are you receiving FM stations on? What frequency do you expect to receive AM stations on? Has it ever worked in the way you expect? Are you wanting to receive broadcast stations or utility stations? Changing the antenna and the coax won't do diddley squat if you are already receiving "FM" - I assume (?) in the VHF broadcast band.
