  I have both. Yaesu VR-5K with an AOR ARD-25 Digital decoder and a
8600MK-II with a digital card installed.  Both have their strengths and
weaknesses. What are looking to monitor?  VHF? UHF? HF?  If HF is your
primary, forget the 8600,
unusable on HF, the VK5000 has DSP for HF.
