The problem with blank lines isn't related to firmware, and isn't cured by a firmware update. The blank line thing has happened to many people. It starts out with just a few blank lines, and gets worse. My receiver's display is about 50% gone, and I haven't used it for years since I couldn't read anything on the screen. If you send it back to Yaesu, they want almost as much as a new radio to fix the problem, so that's not really an option. Yaesu doesn't admit that it's a common problem, they blame it on the user. Anyway, you just have to put up with the blank lines until it gets really bad. Then look for a new receiver.
