With the cable connected to your PC, and the DB9 end not connected, jump pins 2 and 3 (RXD/TXD), then open a terminal program like Hyperterminal, select the com port, and when you type something you should see it back on the screen with echo off, and see double with echo on. If not, you've gor the wrong com port, or the cable/driver is NFG. If that works, connect a scope (or maybe even a voltmeter) to pin 2 (VR5K RXD) and pin 5 (ground) and send some stuff through Hyperterminal and the lowest baud rate you can. You should see some sort of signal there. If it's not on pin 2 check pin3. If it's on pin 3 you need a crossover or null modem adapter. Dave [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
