Vertical lines on screen

I know this is getting more and more of a problem as these receivers age but is there a fix for these vertical lines. I remember a similar problem on an old Nokia phone a few years ago when they suffered from similar symptoms as the VR-5000 with the display missing lines and then some slowly fading back in etc.The fix for that was the elastima strip(rubber strip) at the bottom of the display which once cleaned and reseated seemed to do the trick,so I was wondering if anyone has had a go at this with the VR-5000 as I'm thinking of stripping mine down and see if it can be sorted,surely it doesn't need a new display as these types of display have been going for years.
 Any views or help or advise of anyone will be greatly appreciated.
