RE: Vertical lines on screen

My VR5000 developed the vertical line problem many years ago. 
I sent it back to Yaesu for repair.  They responded to me that it would require a new display module, and that the cost would be over $400.  Since the receiver was still otherwise functional, I just told them to send it back to me.  I can't remember what it cost me for the shipping and diagnosis.  
  After that, someone posted here about fixing the problem by re-seating some of the ribbon cables.  I tried that, but it didn't help.  I still use the receiver off and on, either with channels already in memory or via the CAT, but have given up on solving the problem. 

  The Yaesu technician, who I talked to on the phone tried to tell me that the unit had been hit by lightning, which was not the case.  My problem developed over a period of a couple years, one new line at a time, until over half the lines were missing.  Actually, I put the radio on the shelf for 3 or 4 years, then brought it back out about a year ago, and some of the lines had actually come back to life, so maybe in 6 or 7 years it will fix itself.   :)
