Re: Hi - New VR5000 - have a few questions

Hi,    Well I had a chance to have a really good look at the radio today.  
 

    The previous owner stated that the noise started after the new display was fitted.    
 

    So with due care I dismantled the front of the radio and inspected the control board.
 

    Sure enough, in the middle of the display ribbon where it is soldered to the control board was a solder bridge between two tracks.
 

    A quick touch up with the soldering iron, solder bridge gone and following a test, so is the noise.    Easy fix !
 

    I had a bit of a play with the radio and I noticed that it was a little off frequency (obvious on SSB)
 

    A tweak of the PLL master oscillator and it is now on frequency. 
 

    I still don't know what version of software it runs, so please pointers on how to find out.
 

    Also I can't find a full service manual on-line, so if anybody can point me in the right direction, please let me know.
