Inexpensive Antenna

INEXPENSIVE ANTENNA

For vhf and up I use a homemade antenna consisting of a length of thin blac=
k
wire with the end inserted thru the top of a plastic screw protector from a
hardware store. Just cut or drill a tiny hole just big enough for the wire
to go thru.  The length out the top will be for what you=92re listening to.
For example high band is 18 inches which works well for me on everything I
listen to.  To determine the length for your listening just divide the
frequency in MHz in 2808.

Then the wire coming wire coming thru the inside with enough for a knot
strip the last of the wire bare and fold it over 3-4 times so it will inser=
t
into the top of a BNC to F connector.  These are available from Radio Shack=
.
This is the connector one would use to make a cable TV wire connect to a BN=
C
jack on a radio.

Then insert the folded wire into the center of the connector, slide the
screw protector over the outside threaded part.  The right screw protector
will fit very firmly.  Take the connector with you to the hardware store to
be sure you get the right one.

A longer wire will work well for shortwave.
