My husband is being treated for cancer and his treatments are not going well. I have no choice but to take 4 weeks off to take care of him until some distant family members can move in to help. I will be taking leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act and won't be getting paid (since I don't have that much leave built up), but I am certainly not just going to leave them with a sub until I get back (we'll have about 3 weeks left when I return).
So here's my problem - how do I teach "remotely"? The students will be stuck with a sub, which in my state only means someone with a high school diploma, not an actual teacher. I teach lower-level chemistry and physical science and we do not have an end-of-course test so technically I can teach whatever I want in these courses. I have been sticking to the state guidelines, but now I am just hoping to get some ideas for helping my students learn something related to science while I'm gone.
I am asking you wonderful people to help me figure out how/where to get together material that the students can and will essentially teach themselves. Piece of cake, right?
