An article in today's Liverpool Daily Post (27 Jun) describes current plans to save U534, which had been visitable at Birkenhead until Feb 2006, when the Historic Warships Collection closed.
Now, Merseytravel, owners of Mersey Ferries, plan to cut the boat into three sections, and then move it to their Woodside Ferry Terminal, where it, and the artefacts recovered from it, will be housed in a new visitor exhibition centre. The artefacts which had been displayed at the HWC included a (very corroded) M4 Enigma machine.
Negotiations are still under way, but Merseytravel anticipate starting work in September.
