I am sure Martin is right in suggesting that the BP part of the story is
just journalistic hype. It is ludicrous to suggest that pigeon-carried
messages sent by our own people had to be passed to our own codebreakers
to be deciphered.  German messages perhaps - but still very unlikely.

However, it is well established that there was a well-stocked pigeon
loft at BP in WWII. It is thought to have been set up by MI6, who
initially
shared BP with the codebreakers (i.e. the GCCS) before moving elsewhere.
I have never heard a convincing story as to exactly what these pigeons
got up to!  Does anyone else know?
