Though some army regiments also used the old spelling (and still do)
Serjeant.

I have photographed many war graves and can't remember ever noticing any RAF
ones with it spelt Serjeant.

The spelling of serjeant is crucial.

The RAF used a J while the army used a G, leading some to conclude this was
sent by an airman..../snip/
