Don't turn my uncle's life into a romance, says Alan Turing's niece

Niece of Alan Turing, the computer pioneer and Second World War 
codebreaker, says she hopes a film will not "romanticise" his life

Inagh Payne, the niece of Second World War codebreaker Alan Turing, has 
expressed concerns about The Imitation Game, to be released next year, 
which will star Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing and Keira Knightley as his 
friend Joan Clarke.

Film makers describe Clarke, who died in 1996, as Turing's "complicated 
love interest".

The pair were good friends, and at one point they even got engaged, but 
they soon broke it off when Turing admitted that he was gay.

Mrs Payne, whose father, John, was Turing's older brother, said : "Joan 
Clarke was rather plain, but she was very nice, bright and a good friend 
to Alan."

Speaking about the film and the casting of Knightley, known for her roles 
in Hollywood films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, she added : "I think 
they might be trying to romanticise it. It makes me a bit mad. You want 
the film to show it as it was, not a lot of nonsense."..../snip/
