The first image of Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing was revealed online 
to celebrate the posthumous royal pardon for the codebreaker

The first official still from forthcoming wartime film "The Imitation 
Game" was released on Christmas Eve, to mark the posthumous royal pardon 
of Alan Turing's conviction for homosexuality.

The image shows Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing, the mathematician and 
Bletchley Park code-breaker who was prosecuted for homosexuality in 1952, 
two years before his death from cyanide poisoning.

"The Imitation Game", which finished filming on November 11, also stars 
Keira Knightley as Joan Clarke, a code-breaker who worked in Bletchley 
Park's Hut 8 with Turing before the pair became engaged. Turing later came 
out to Clarke, who was "unfazed" by his revelation and the pair cancelled 
their marriage. The film is based on Andrew Hodges' biography of Turing,
