 and=0ACoelurosauria). We report a new theropod, Yunyangosaurus puanensis g=
en. et=0Asp. nov., based on a fragmentary specimen recovered from the Middl=
e=0AJurassic Xintiangou Formation of Chongqing, southwestern China. It shar=
es=0Aseveral features uniquely with some megalosauroids (the clade of=0Ameg=
alosaurids + spinosaurids + piatnitzkysaurids), such as prominent rims=0Aar=
ound the anterior articular surfaces of cervical centra and bifurcated=0Aan=
terior dorsal neural spines (present in piatnitzkysaurids). Nevertheless,=
=0Ait also shows several features that are rare or absent among megalosauro=
ids=0Aand more crownward tetanurans, including prominent spinopostyzgopophy=

atures that are rare or absent among megalosauroids and more crownward teta=
nurans, including prominent spinopostyzgopophyseal laminae (also present in=
 non-tetanurans and metriacanthosaurid allosauroids), flat anterior articul=
ar surfaces of the cervical centra (also present in piatnitzkysaurids and s=
ome earlier-diverging tetanurans), and the presence of a posterior pneumati=
c foramen or fossa (absent in most tetanurans, but sporadically present in =
some cervical vertebrae of piatnitzkysaurids). Yunyangosaurus therefore pre=
